His other significant works include Katrina (1969) and Jannie Totsiens (1970), which are noted for their bold storytelling and social commentary. After a hiatus, he returned to filmmaking with Abraham (2015), which was well-received at the South African box office. Rautenbach passed away in Mossel Bay on November 2, 2016, leaving a lasting impact on South African cinema.
